vampire weekend : holiday (video)
really don't like this song. but the video is entertaining enough.
brand new : sowing season (acoustic)
deja entendu will likely always be one of my favorite records, even more so when seen in the light of how "disposable" a lot of bands from that genre ended up being. as of late, brand new hasn't really won me over with a full album, but they always seem ready and able to produce one track that'll leave me feeling moved. this is one.
boys like us : the creek became a river
boys like us is the solo project of vampire weekend's rostam batmanglij which has, thus far, been limited to remixing other people's songs. but now there's a very pretty song over at his myspace. recommended if you like horse feathers.

who knew : we do
i've posted on these icelanders twice before. but with each new jam, a new reason to post. now while i again admit, as i did before, that these guys sound A LOT like wolf parade (or, more specifically, apologies era wolf parade), i also admit, as i did before, that i don't care. this much joyous and melodic cacophony is just too beautiful to pass up. their debut album, bits and pieces of a major spectacle, is out now in parts of europe. not sure about their plans for an american release.

x-files : 'starving yogi'
decided to start a new feature on this here blogspot, inspired in part by my newfound love for all things mulder and scully. really intrigued by the paranormal and supernatural. probably because in a day and age where science can explain away everything in front of us, it becomes harder and harder to believe that there exists something beyond that which we can see and smell and touch and observe.
sooo, this fella supposedly hasn't had a bit to eat or a sip to drink in seven decades. military medics did a two week study, during which the man neither ate nor drank. it'll be a few months before the scientists and doctors will be ready to report their findings, but needless to say i'm on the edge of my seat. the truth is out there.
