shuffle surprise : begin again
i really enjoyed the veils first two records, both delightful albums full of britpop gems. but i didn't give too much time to their third and most recent effort. but after this beautiful little piano-driven number popped up during a recent shuffle sesh, i'm going to have to give the album another go around.

bon iver : bon iver, bon iver (album stream)
stream bon iver's new album in full over here. for a lot of people it probably won't have as much immediate impact and appeal as for emma did, but it's just as good. make sure to give it some time.
also, as a side note, i've been seeing this album called bon iver by just about everyone writing about it, but i'm pretty sure the band and the label said that the new album is called bon iver, bon iver. but it seems strange that everyone would get it wrong. any info on this?

clams casino : instrumental mixtape (free album download)
clams casino is the musician/producer responsible for the beats on a bunch of trippy lil' b raps. my gf pointed me to a mixtape of instrumental beats that clams recently gave away for free and it is AWESOME. and i know the premise sounds like it might be sort of lame (like, imagine listening to four minutes of 50 cent's "in da club" without lyrics...kind of tortuous, right?), but it's actually really great. ethereal and ghostly and spacey and hypnotic. if you like burial or four tet, you can probably get behind this. even if you don't like those two guys, you might still like this. good music for driving alone at night down the highway with the windows down in the summertime.
