arcade fire : we used to wait (video)
this is interactive and amazing. really cool. these guys are always pushing, and you just have to respect that.
matt and kim : cameras
listen here. it sounds like new territory for matt and kim. but it also sounds exactly like matt and kim. that's good.
the walkmen : lisbon (full album stream)
here. it's good. but would you expect anything less from these guys?

sufjan stevens : i walked
wondering what the age of adz will sound like? the thought of warm banjos and acoustic guitars being replaced by icy synths and drum machines scaring you a little? if we're being honest, it scares me a little. i prefer the former. but i could definitely get into the latter. have a taste.

go get : wild nothing's gemini
wild nothing's gemini came out earlier this summer, but i just finally got my hands on the album. oh. my. gosh. so good. so so good. it's what the pains of being pure at heart would sound like if they weren't so insufferable. it's what atlas sound would sound like if cox wasn't such a sad sack. it's what the smiths would sound like if they came out this decade and stayed under the radar. it's 80s-y. it's new wave-y. it's shoegaze-y. it's shimmery. it's fantastic. i really can't remember the last time i've been this amped up on an album.
now, with all that said, i'm not entirely convinced this band can maintain a long career on this sound (although i could be wrong, too). i'm also not sure how the band, as they move forward, will be able to adapt/grow their sound. but i don't really care. this is, for me, a near perfect album from start to finish and will most certainly end up as one of my favorite records of the year, with a good chance of joining my list of all-time favorite albums. yeah. that just happened.

GROUPER -- Hold by ROOM40
p.s. if you don't own it already, go get dragging a dead deer up a hill. right meow.
s. carey : in the stream
another gorgeous little number by bon iver vocalist/percussionist sean carey. it doesn't hold a candle to "in the dirt," (which may be one of my favorite songs of 2010), but still bodes well for the album as a whole being worthwhile.

kol lp5 album title and release date
the now nearly ubiquitous kings of leon have officially announced a release date and an album title for the follow-up to their most recent and wildly (commercially) successful (but aurally disappointing) album, only by the night. lp number five, continuing with the five syllable album title rule the band has seemingly self-enforced since lp1, will be called come around sundown and will be released on october 19.
how to dress well : you won't need me where i'm going
i'm sure many would argue that it'd be counterintuitive for this type of artist/music, but i think this song could stand to use a bit crisper production. regardless, vibing hard.
lil wayne : right above it (ft. drake)
for all those (rightfully) scared away from weezy by his "rock" outing, rebirth, here's a decent number to ease you back into the weezy you used to know. not necessarily an album-worthy cut, but good mixtape material. speaking of which, this song is from an upcoming lil' wayne mixtape, to be released on his birthday, september 27.
ferraby lionheart : harry and bess (video ft. rainn wilson)
i posted this song a couple weeks back, and if you haven't listened to it yet, shame on you. no excuses this time around. this song will most definitely be making my best of 2010 list.

did y'all watch lost? remember the man in black? ever wonder what his (or rather, his character's) name was? answer.
amazon daily deal : arcade fire's THE SUBURBS
only four bucks right here. and it's really good, too. the anthemic moments you're probably used to aren't really there. and the catharsis is quite a bit more nuanced/subtle. but it's still really good.

80/35 (refresh everything)
have y'all heard of 80/35? it's a pretty special music festival that takes place every summer in the great midwestern city of des moines, iowa. i say that it's special because, over the last few decades, iowa as a performance stop has been pretty overlooked by bands and agents alike. an afterthought, if a thought at all. but thanks to the efforts of organizations like 80/35 (of which one of my dearest friends, tim, contributes much man/brain/willpower), iowa, and more specifically des moines, is starting to pull in really great acts of all different sizes (phoenix, passion pit, band of horses, spoon, the roots, etc.). and i, for one, believe that 80/35's hard work should not go unnoticed/unrewarded. so do me a favor and go to this site right here. bookmark it. and go back to it a couple times a day and vote for 80/35. for me. for them. for iowa. for music.
