new toro y moi on the way. i love chaz, and i think he may end up being a real force to be reckoned with behind the mixing boards, but his output as an artist has been sort of hit or miss for me. granted, the hits were bullseyes and the misses were slight, but the inconsistency felt fairly off-putting. excited for round two.
very nice (and timely) read on the subject of year-end lists. last year i hadn't planned on doing one for bbwh, but after a couple of requests i acquiesced and ended up really enjoying the list-making process. so i think i'm going to do another one this year. look out for that sometime next month.
the decemberists : down by the water (conan)
i was always impressed by the decemberists' ambition and execution during their "prog-rock opera album" phase, but i never really could get behind the songs. a few of them, especially the shorter ones that stuck closer to traditional pop/folk formulas, were always the ones where the band seemed to shine the brightest. this song (and hopefully the rest of the album) seem to be a much welcomed return to form.

tennis : take me somewhere (mp3)
lovely summertime gem by denver duo tennis. rec'd if you like sandwitches, late 50s girl groups.
conan + jack white : twenty flight rock (conan)
conan's new show debuted last night. it was good. he played with jack white (who i'm convinced is the music version of johnny depp). it was good.

jesse and kracker
as of around 2 a.m. this morning, i was blessed enough to join the esteemed ranks of jesse and kracker as an uncle. i imagine, much to my pleasure, that this is the type of stuff the little tyke and i will be enjoying together.

this is currently believed to be the first photo of a human being ever. due to the technological limitations of the time, a person would have had to stand still for quite awhile to be captured. the desolate looking street would likely have been bustling with people and carriages, but nobody halted long enough to be saved forever in film, save this man (seemingly getting his shoe shined).

patrick wolf : time of my life (video)
not the official video. i know who patrick wolf is, as he had quite a blog presence for the past few years, but i've never really given his music a listen. his latest single is convincing me that that might have been a mistake. this song is a doozy. cinematic, even.

the streets : 4 o'clock (video)
another video/song release following in the footsteps of "trust me." and i really like this one, too. think it's the horns. not sure if this jam will find its way onto the final streets album, but here's to hoping.
