this one has been a long time coming. and i think bassist nikolai fraiture said it best when he described the new material as sounding like the missing link between room on fire and first impressions of earth. instrumentally, it has some of the technical flair that seemed ever-present (and a little indulgent) on first impressions, but the general structure, melody, and feel of the song fall more in line with classic strokes. i think they've struck a great balance on this song, and i'm (cautiously) optimistic that the rest of the album will follow suit. you can download it for free at the band's site. stream it below.
